The Manchester United striker debate: Marcus Rashford? Someone else? Or a mobile attack?

Marcus Rashford impressed at Manchester United’s 1-1 draw scoring the opening goal until the late equaliser of Adam Lallana, but is he the ideal man?
His performance prompted a heated discussion on Super as Graeme Souness Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Jose Mourinho assessed the suitability of Rashford and gave.
Regardless of Rashford’s eye-catching display at Old Trafford, Souness had been that Manchester United still have to make a proven goalscorer to replace Romelu Lukaku, who was offered to Inter Milan during the summer.
“He is one day, however, he is not the final article at the moment,” he explained of Rashford. “He’s not scored enough goals in the Premier League for Manchester United to hang their hat to him being the guy that’s definitely going to take them back to wherever they desire. He needs assistance.
“He’s everything to be a participant, but this year he has been asked to be the main man. It is the toughest position to play the soccer pitch. He’s not ready to fill that job. He needs assistance. Like the young boy [Daniel] James will require assist.
“It is too much . It’s too much for any 21-year-old you might title. You can’t possess a 21-year-old because the main person at a club of this size.
“Strikers are the toughest things to find. That is the reason why they charge the most cash. If you’re able to land somebody that has you 30 or even 25 goals a year, and he is not precisely what you want, you take him anyhow and build the rest. You’re struggling for goals, that.
“Where Man United are today, they’ll take nothing!”
Mourinho knows Rashford greater than having worked closely with him. He insisted the 21-year-old’s encounter is no problem, instead saying that he is simply a lot more effective from the positions.
“I don’t think he is a 9 that will play against a minimal block or that can be a target man,” he said. “I think he’s a man of movement, who can strike space then strike defenders with the ball at his feet.
“I don’t think he is a pure 9, so it is dependent upon the model of drama. If Ole wants to perform with the way he played today I believe Rashford is the striker because of him.
“He is young, but he’s experienced. At 21 years old, he has more games in the Premier League, in the World Cup, at 24, 25 from the Europa League at the Euros.
“Therefore, for mepersonally, the purpose is not his age, it’s his qualities. He is potentially an excellent player in certain versions of play, in certain positions. But as a target man I do not think he’s got the 30 goals a high striker has.
“For me personally, he can get better and better and improved enjoying the way he did now, playing from the other hand, playing with a target person.
“But for him to function as target man in matches where Manchester United are all dominant, playing against defensive teams, against low blocks, I think it’s hard for him”
Neville, nevertheless, insisted Rashford could yet develop into a prolific No 9, adding that the priority for Manchester United shouldn’t merely be to bring in any striker who can score goals – but a person who will be the correct match for the manner Solskjaer would like to play.
“He’s still young,” Neville said of Rashford. “I consider [Roberto] Firmino if he first came to England, I seem [Mohamed] Salah if he was at Chelsea, I consider [Sadio] Mane. Players have to develop into what they will become.
“I believe United want a striker like Firmino, such as [Heung-Min] Son at Tottenham. I think [Solskjaer] needs that type of player.
“I don’t think he wants a normal striker who is going to become a Lukaku or a [Diego] Costa. I don’t think he’s searching for this type. I believe he’s searching to get a type in front three or a front two.
“I feel this club has always had strikers who will play in pairs, that contribute the ball off.
“I will be certain about Ruud van Nistelrooy. We won less championships with him centre-forward than once Louis Saha was attracted by us in to associate Wayne Rooney.
“He was nowhere near as good a finisher as Ruud or as great a striker as Ruud, however, the team became improved. And that’s my point, I don’t think Ole needs a striker like that; I believe he wants a portable striker.”
Neville used the instance of Christian Benteke and Jurgen Klopp . “He just chucked him out the club because he didn’t suit his style of play,” he explained. “Ole’s done the same using Lukaku, and Lukaku is a far better player than Benteke.
“Ole isn’t likely to sign a striker just because he scores goals, since Lukaku would have done that.”
For Keane, the answer was easy. “Just go and get [Harry] Kane from Tottenham,” he said. “Easy. They’re in disarray. Just go and catch him.”
As Rashford,” Keane theorised the 21-year-old does not really would like to be the most important man, including that he is much better suited to a role of Manchester United for.
“Lots of players do not wish to be the main striker, they do not need to be the main man. I believe he wants to play wider positions. His strength is his pace and he will impact the game more coming from on and obviously broad the counter-attack.
“It is still a significant problem, that he doesn’t score enough targets. I don’t believe he has that physical presence if you want to be the main striker at Man United. I really don’t think he’s great with his back.
“But he is a talented child. He is still learning his trade. However, the strain on him at the last few months, I really don’t think he has dealt with it well since he does not need to be the most important striker.”
