Goalkeeper Jack Bonham has been the hero as Gillingham denied the hosts that a third league win in a row and held Portsmouth.
Bonham pulled off three good saves at Fratton Park to leave the home audience.
The visitors setup to stifle but provided little in the method of threat, although Pompey dominated the ball lacked any real consistency.
Gareth Evans shot from beyond the penalty area had Bonham low.
