Curacao goalkeeper Jarzinho Pieter has expired the day before his group were expected to perform Haiti, governing body Concacaf has said.
31, pieter, died on Monday at the club in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
The players have decided to go ahead with all the Concacaf Nations League match”in homage” to Pieter, who had played 12 times for its Caribbean island.
A minute’s silence will be held ahead of Tuesday’s game (23:00 BST) and until all other matches in the contest.
Pieter was the backup keeper to Eloy Room and performed for Curacao side Centro Dominguito.
The Curacao squad includes his brother Juninho of Huddersfield and Leandro Bacuna of Cardiff, in Addition to Oldham pair Zeus de la Paz and Gevaro Nepomuceno.
Leandro Bacuna paid tribute to his friend and team-mate on Instagram describing him as having a”beautiful heart” and then”my brother from another mother”.
“The Football Federation of Curacao advised the Confederation that, after consulting the gamers, they decided to play with tomorrow’s match against Haiti in homage for their team-mate,” Concacaf said in statement.
“A second of silence took place today from the games of the League of Nations Concacaf and will take place before the kick-off tomorrow, as a tribute to the Confederation and in memory of Jarzinho because of his contributions to soccer.”
