The selection procedure for The Hundred will get underway early next month when England’s Test players have been to find out which team they will play for.
Every one of the eight teams – established in Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, Birmingham, Cardiff, Southampton and two at London (Lord’s and the Oval) – can get their choice of some red-ball contracted player.
The system usually means a challenging selection for the staff, whose catchment area also includes Durham, and might see Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root playing elsewhere should they choose to select Headingley Ashes Test hero Ben Stokes as their Evaluation representative.
Teams without a participant within their area will have the ability to pick from elsewhere and, after each team has one Exam participant, the remainder will be allocated to their place.
Each group will also have the choice to negotiate and choose two’icon’ players who have been playing county cricket in their area.
The player draft, that is televised on Sky Sports, takes place on October 20 plus a random draw will decide the order of selection.

Stage 2 of the participant selection process (October 1-May 30) will see every group sign up their remaining 13 players from around three player pools – the rest England Women’s centrally contracted players, both overseas players and domestic players.
Southampton Women’s head trainer Charlotte Edwards stated:”It’s quite exciting that we will have a open market system and all the teams will probably be recruiting their own players for the very first time. It shows how the women’s game has evolved and grown.
