A quiet afternoon for the Everton man, but he did create one critical save soon after the breakup, repelling a Marcelinho shot to protect against a Bulgaria equaliser. He landed Harry Maguire in trouble with one loose pass afterwards in the half, however, responded by tipping the consequent free-kick on the pub.
Kieran Trippier – 7

Merely his fourth appearance for England side but seems at home in the midfield of Southgate. Showed awareness facing the back four, which makes tackles and interceptions than some of his team-mates. Finished 95 of his 98 passes.
Jordan Henderson – 6
Do not do much wrong despite enjoying England’s most innovative midfielder sometimes but did not offer much in the way of creativity, either. Connected sweetly with a single Rose cross at the first half but his effort flew wide. Replaced by Mason Mount .
Ross Barkley – 8
Born some eye-catching moments of skill, finishing five star over the course of the 90 minutes and creating four scoring opportunities. Not everything came off – there were groans from the audience when he over-hit one pass at the second half but he strove to make things happen.
Raheem Sterling – 9
England player with Bulgaria defenders, in the first half not able to keep up with him. Showed great anticipation to permeate Plamen Iliev pass and tee the opener of Harry Kane up, and was subsequently in the ideal place at the time after his team-mate returned the favour following the rest.
Marcus Rashford – 7
Quiet at the first half compared to Sterling, but appreciated more of the ball after the rest, generating some passes and demonstrating pace to win the penalty for England’s next goal. Moved after the withdrawal of Kane into the center however had few openings.
