Joe Root said despite failing to regain the Ashes from 20, he is still the right man.
Defeat at the fourth Test at Old Trafford abandoned England 2-1 meant the holders will choose the urn back down below and down with a single match to play.

“I’ve been provided a fantastic chance to captain the Test side and certainly will continue to work very hard at doing my best at this,” said .
“That’s in my hands I have to make sure I do everything I can to get this team in the very ideal shape to acquire as many matches as you can.”
Root, 28, took responsibility for the Test side along with his win percentage of 50 is much better than all but Michael Vaughan at the past 38 decades.
But, Root will become the primary England skipper since 2001 to not win a house Ashes series.
“Whenever you drop a series, it hurts,” explained the Yorkshire batsman. “I must take that on the chin. You need to appear at places you want to improve at, both in yourself and as a team.”
His attention also immediately turned on the fifth Test at The Oval, which begins on Thursday.
England can still draw at 2-2, while a loss would leave them. They’re also searching for points in the new World Test Championship.
“We have to look forward to another Test match and have something from the show,” he said.
“I know the Ashes aren’t coming home, however regarding the Evaluation Championship, those points might be critical.
“You never need to drop an Ashes series and every match against Australia things. Turning up in the Oval and placing in a strong performance to win the match is critical for this group.”
