Paul Casey hopes he could carry his form after winning his third title.
The Englishman produced a round of 66 to clinch victory at the Porsche European Open at Hamburg.
Casey birdied the 16th and 17th holes to finish one shot clear of Matthias Schwab, Bob MacIntyre and Bernd Ritthammer.
His attention has already turned to the PGA Championship at Wentworth, which he won in 2009 although it’s Casey win on European soil as the KLM Open in 2014.
“I am very excited, I love that golf course,” said Casey. “I have two successes around there [he won the World Match Play Championship at Wentworth in 2006].
“You speak about the European Open and watching it as a kid; Wentworth is where it started for me.”
Casey began the last one stroke behind Ritthammer and MacIntyre but pulled evident to the home stretch with both the sixth and fifth birdies.
“It was fine to make the putts as it counted,” said Casey, who committed his 14th European Tour name to the late Gordon Brand Jnr.
“That was the key this week. The ball striking has been exceptional. I gave myself that my strength and a awful lot of chances, and I was able to keep this challenging golf course .
“I volunteered at this occasion at Walton Heath in 1991 – as a standard-bearer – walking around the golf course. Walton Heath isn’t far from where I grew up as a child, I never thought I would be sitting here with the decoration, which can be very trendy.
“I’ve been blessed to win at Wentworth, and also to win this one feels really unique. We had some fantastic players in the specialty, and the players that are youthful pushed us older men right to the finish.
“I feel like fit at 42 as I’ve ever felt. I have a great deal of enthusiasm and an understanding of my golfing game. I love working hard for this and also the pursuit of being as great as I could be.”
