Gareth Southgate: England must cut out individual mistakes after ‘bizarre’ Kosovo encounter

Gareth Southgate has warned his England players they must eliminate the individual mistakes after their”bizarre” experience with Kosovo.
A revealing from the men of Southgate was sufficient to repel a courageous Kosovo 5-3 at St Mary’s at a pulsating European Qualifier.
After dropping behind England responded emphatically, scoring five goals in the opening 45 minutes two more defensive lapses allowed their plucky competitions a way back in the match.
The England manager praised the ability to recuperate after their slow beginning of his team but surrendered the mistakes must eliminate in the back.
“It was weird,” he explained.
“The exceptional aspects and the bad features are evident for everyone. We left individual mistakes and a poor start to the match but showed composure to recover from these mistakes. Our use of this ball in the first half has been great.”
He added on Sky Sports News:”The game should really be finished at half-time, needless to say, but when teams start to lose leads then there is a different feel about the scene and the opposition don’t have anything to lose so could go for it, and we only have ourselves to blame because of that. They were poor errors, poor individual errors and decisions although not structural issues for us.
“It put Kosovo back in the match and then at 5-3 we’d a extended ownership and really calmed down the game. There was a very long passing move that led to the penalty, which had been our chance. Unfortunately, we did not take that this time, but we managed to find the game out fairly well from there.”
It was a performance from Southgate’s guys who had been sometimes scintillating going forward, especially in the period just before the break after Sterling and Jadon Sancho generated havoc .
Kosovo coach Bernard Challandes hailed Sterling as”among the best on the planet” after his operation while Sancho took his opportunity with open arms, netting his first foreign targets.
Southgate had high praise for those both.
He said:”The forward play was outstanding at times…Sterling’s performances have been of the highest level. He had been unstoppable. His comprehension of where defenders are along with his capacity to ride his vision, struggles and desire to put in on goal. I couldn’t speak highly enough of him.
Southgate additional on Sancho:”We all know we have got such great attacking talent. We were really delighted with Marcus [Rashford] at the weekend. Jadon is a different type of player. He revealed his balance and he also showed his ability to conquer individuals. He works extremely hard for the team without the ball, which is significant to the way we play, and that he has been rewarded with his first goals for England that’s a unique moment for him.”
